Best Practice Guidelines
Expectations
Building Community Inc. strives to create a vibrant and welcoming marketplace for both small business vendors and customers. To maintain a positive and harmonious environment, we have established this Best Practice Guideline. All vendors who are a part of our market community are expected to follow our Best Practice Guidelines to ensure a pleasant experience for all.
Purpose
The guidelines below have been established to ensure that everyone in our community is given an opportunity to succeed. Venues, organizers, and small businesses all have an equal and important role to play in the formation of a market. The Best Practices below are meant to guide small business vendors to better understand what is expected of them and why these practices can have an impact on their success.
Best Practices
Vendors should arrive at the exact set-up time given to them by the organizer. Arriving early does not allow the organizer to do their part to prepare the market space for vendors. Arriving late can jeopardize the organization's contract with the venue and puts future markets at risk.
Vendor tables must be fully set up by the time the market is set to begin. When vendors are not fully set up it reflects poorly on the market as a whole. This too can jeopardize the organization's contract with the venue and puts future markets at risk.
Vendors are expected to conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner at all times when interacting with customers, other vendors, and market staff. This includes treating everyone with respect regardless of ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, economic status, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, age, national origin, race, and religious identity's objective of your personal and/or religious beliefs.
Keep your booth and the market area clean and free from any hazards or debris.
Unless your booth has direct access to a power outlet, no electrical cords/extension cords will be permitted to run across any surface of the activation site.
All products must comply with relevant laws and regulations, including safety standards and labeling requirements.
Be honest about your products, their ingredients, and their origin.
Refrain from making false claims or engaging in deceptive practices.
Vendors are expected to comply with all local, provincial and federal laws and regulations, including permits, licenses, and tax requirements.
Maintain proper hygiene, and follow food safety guidelines where applicable.
If you are selling food or beverages, adhere to food safety regulations and ensure that your products are safe for consumption. Ensure food is properly packaged and in display cases.
Work collaboratively with other vendors to foster a sense of community within the market.
When sharing information online, posts must not contain any inappropriate information, including but not limited to hate speech (personal attacks on fellow exhibitors, organization or market event), graphic, obscene, explicit, or illegal submissions, accusatory comments as well as personal advertisements.
Any discussions pertaining to an event should be constructive and positive.
There should be no dissemination of deliberately misleading or false information about any of the market events or related stakeholders.
Vendors are expected to stay at their tables for the duration of the market. Always come prepared and bring extra promotional materials to distribute in case you sell out of your products you can still advertise your business and make connections in the community.
